The Lions started the year 2022 on a bright note by staying unbeaten in 12 friendly games, winning 10 and drawing 2 to head into the NLO2 season but sadly couldn’t reciprocate the pre-league form during the league campaign as they could only gather 2 points from a possible 9 to end a disappointing outing.

The Lions however picked themselves back up after the disappointing league outing to head into the AITEO cup (FA cup) campaign with a much better performance as they made it all the way to the quarterfinals before getting knocked out by the Ekiti state owned team on penalties.

They however continued to show their winning prowess in friendly matches and once again were unbeaten in 5-games running to July before the winning run was truncated by football connect FC with the Lions going on to lose 2 other consecutive games against sunshine stars and Akure city FC but the Lions went on to get their revenge over Sunshine stars by defeating the state side 2-1 in a very famous win which later turned out to be the state side’s only loss in over 30 preseason games. The Lions also featured in a preseason game against newly promoted NPFL side, Bendel Insurance and put in a sterling performance which saw them lose out by 2-goals with their impressive outing well appreciated by the Benin-Arsenal gaffer.

The Lions ended the year with the bet9ja league campaign which was however another below par turnout in competitive league campaigns as the boys could only muster 4 points and failed to gain qualification for the super eight to end the eventful year and surely one to learn and take a lot of positives from.
