The Lions B Team made to fight back from a goal down to secure a hard earned victory in first competitive game.
The Selection
Assistant Coach Ologun Gbenga who has been shouldered with the responsibility of overseeing the affairs of the B team played a 4-4-2 formation and named Otaki Tope in goal, Imoleayo Oluwadare started from right back, Skipper of the day Akingbade Bonny started in a makeshift position from left back while the duo of Victor and Romeo partnered in central defense. Energetic midfielder Segun Emmanuel got the nod in defensive midfield while Ajor Joseph started in central midfield. Osasu and Abednego started from the wings with Oladimeji Niyi and Ogundumila Opeyemi partnering upfront.
First half
The first big chance of the game fell to Oladimeji Niyi after he was brilliantly setup by Ajor Joseph but the striker fired his effort over the crossbar. The away side went close to taking the lead in the 12th minute but Otaki Tope kept the free kick out with a good save which crashed against the crossbar. Oladimeji Niyi went on to miss 2 other chances to gift us the lead to bring the first half to an end.
Second half
Oladimeji missed yet another chance in the 53rd minute as the goal just wasn’t coming for the lanky forward before being replaced in the 62nd minute by Akinloye Vincent.
The away side however went on to take the lead against the run of play after a scramble in our area but the boys pegged the visitors back in the 80th minute after a lot of pressure when Imoleayo oluwadare went on a short run from the right side before sending a low drive square pass for Akinloye Vincent to tuck home to get his first goal for the club.
The winning goal came in the 84th minute through Oladele Tope, who finished off a spilled effort by Opeyemi into the bottom corner of the net to complete the team’s comeback.
What’s next
The boys will take a rest tomorrow and regroup on Saturday to continue their preparations for the fast approaching Ondo state Bet9ja league.
