COIN TOSS HEARTBREAK: LIONS ELIMINATED FROM AMAPRO

Wonderxchange FC and KFA played out a 1-1 draw at the Kwara Football Academy Pitch A, in the last group game of the Amapro football championship with both teams creating chances but ultimately sharing the spoils.

Team news

The Lions’ gaffer switched to a 4-3-3 formation and made a few changes to the squad, with Oluwatobi Dahunsi and Lekan Yinusa making their first starts in the tournament.

Oluwatobi replaced Samson Adegbite whole Lekan Yinusa replaced Tope Otaki.

Oluwatobi Michael also got the nod ahead of Dotun Olafisoye

Early Dominance

Wonderxchange FC started the game on the front foot, dominating proceedings, and looked like the team to draw the first blood by keeping the ball confidently and creating goalscoring chances.

Melody Terdoo also tested the goalkeeper’s gloves in the third minute with a shot from outside the box while Opeyemi Babatunde and Mighty were unable beat the goalkeeper as well

Close Calls

KFA had an attempt of their own in the 19th minute that came crashing against the woodwork much to the relief of the Lions.

Musa Hassan also went close with a strike on the edge of the box that sailed narrowly wide, while KFA’s counter-attack threats were neutralized by Sikiru Sule’s important challenge and Lekan Yinusa’s big save in goal in the 30th minute.

Breakthrough and Equalizer

The breakthrough came in the 40th minute when Musa Hassan broke free on the right-hand side and sent a cut-back pass for Mighty Aderibigbe to fire home nicely to end the first half with an advantage to the Lions.

KFA, however, returned for the second half throwing everything forward, searching for an equalizer, an effort which finally paid off in the 65th minute when a loose pass fell graciously to the path of an attacker who made no mistake right in front of the goalkeeper.

Tense Battle

The contest became a tense battle as both sides continued to press for a much needed winner, which never came, with Mighty Aderibigbe, Amaechi & Musa Hassan all in attack trying to find that moment of magic which unfortunately never came, ending the game with one goal apiece.

Group Standings

Abraysports and Teworh SC also played out a 1-1 draw, ensuring all teams in the group finished with 3 points each and tied on the same goal difference.

Abraysports topped the group with a superior goal forward, while Wonderxchange FC and KFA had to be settled with a coin toss, which ended in favor of KFA, knocking out Wonderxchange FC.
