The selection

Tope Otaki got the nod to be in goal, the trio of Romeo Victor, Seun Ojo and Samson Adegbite started in defence, Fisayo Ilesanmi and Osasu Sunday lined up from the left and right wingback respectively. Emeka Okorie, Abednego Lewey and Joseph Ajor started in the midfield while the duo of Musa Hassan and Amaechi Sunday partnered upfront.

Comfortable 45 minutes

The Lions came all out right from kickoff and kept the opponent in their half in the opening stages, an approach that yielded an early goal in the 5th minute after Amaechi Sunday’s effort came crashing against the crossbar with the ball falling back to the feet of Musa Hassan who sent a shot past the goalkeeper which bounced against the upright and into the opponent’s goal to give us the lead.

In the 12th minute, Amaechi made his own mark in the 12th minute when he fired an effort past the goalkeeper inside the area.

The visitors however pulled one back against the run of play in the 22nd minute after Tope Otaki ran out of his goal area and failed to make a clearance with the opponent’s attacker stealing the ball from the goalkeeper and putting it into the net.

Amaechi would go on to deny any hope of a comeback for the visitors. He hopped on a brilliant through pass from Olayemi Bello to make it 3 heading into the break.

10 is the number

With the coach making a series of changes at the break, the Lions picked up where they left off. Oluwatobi Dahunsi made his mark in the 55th minute with a beautiful effort curled in from the edge of the box past the helpless goalkeeper. Oluwatobi then provided another for Chinedu Okorie just a minute after his goal.

In the 65th minute, the Lions scored a beautiful team goal which was orchestrated from the midfield with a beautiful exchange of passes. This exchange was rounded off by Chinedu setting up Melody. He poked a tame and simple effort past the goalkeeper. Both combined once again in the 77th minute with Melody this time providing the assist for Chinedu Okorie to get the Lions’ 7th of the day.

Omolade Ibitayo added to the tally in the 80th minute off an assist by Oluwatobi Dahunsi.

Omolade Ibitayo got his brace and the 10th and final goal for the Lions just before the final whistle to seal a comfortable and easy victory for his side.
