Wonderxchange FC Edge Past Choice FC in Five-Goal Thriller | The Lions roar to an unforgettable comeback win in their NLO1 debut.
Selection

With head coach Michael Olayiwola away on a coaching course, assistant coach Aiyeyemi James took charge and named a strong starting XI for the Lions’ historic NLO1 debut. Imoleayo started in goal, shielded by a backline of Lekan, Abass, Oluwatosin and Omolade. Melody, Afolabi and Amuda (later replaced by Glory) held midfield responsibilities, while Odunayo(later replaced by Madu), Damilola and Mighty(later replaced by Oluwatobi) led the line.

Cautious Footsteps, Fierce Intentions

The Lions kicked off their debut Nationwide League One campaign with an intense fixture against a familiar rival, Choice FC, at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode. With both teams opting for a composed start, the early minutes were a chess match of possession, positioning, and probing passes. It was a calculated beginning, as the Lions looked to settle into the rhythm of top-tier competition while respecting the danger posed by their opponents.

Mighty’s Redemption and First Roar

The first real spark came when Mighty beat the offside trap and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he couldn’t keep his shot on target. Just minutes later, he made amends. A beautiful cross from Damilola released him again this time, Mighty kept his composure and buried it, scoring Wonderxchange’s historic first goal in the NLO1 and giving the Lions the early advantage.

Twist Before the Break

Choice FC, however, had other ideas. They found an equalizer in the 30th minute with a swift attacking move that split the Lions’ defence. As the half drew to a close, Choice FC struck again, flipping the scoreline just before the break. Wonderxchange headed into the dressing room trailing 2–1 and in need of a response.

Melody Strikes the Bar, Abass Pounces

The second half resumed with tactical changes and renewed energy. Melody almost brought the stadium to life with a curling free kick in the 60th minute that rattled the crossbar. The breakthrough came soon after Omolade drove into space and delivered a low square pass that found Abass, who calmly slotted home into an empty net to level the score at 2–2.

Dotun Seals the Deal

As the Lions pressed for a winner, Mighty continued to cause problems for Choice FC’s defence. His quick feet won a penalty after he was clipped in the box. Dotun stepped up confidently and sent the keeper the wrong way, converting from the spot to hand Wonderxchange a dramatic and deserved lead. The final whistle confirmed a thrilling 3–2 comeback and a perfect start to the campaign.
