Brave Lions came close to causing and upset; edged out on penalties by the state team.
The selection

The gaffer kept his faith with the same side that defeated Eagle Stars FC in the first round with Emelike Victor and Emmanuel Segun drafted to the bench.

Kickoff

The state team started the encounter on the front foot and could have gone ahead in the 4th minute as we had the crossbar to thank for keeping the ball out of goal. The game got physical with both sides on the receiving end of tackles but the lions gradually settled into the game and started creating chances of their own with Omolade and Chinedu coming close. The first half ended with both sides unable to penetrate each other’s defense lines.

However what would later be the biggest chance of the day fell to Chinedu in the 48th minute when he broke through from a counter attack and was one on one with only the goalkeeper to beat, he opted to fire a low shot to the right side of the goalkeeper who stood his ground and kept the shot out with a great save but the attacker should have done better. The state side later went rampant on attacks which were kept at bay by the brilliant Emmanuel Yakubu in goal and our defense line leaving the full-time result at a goalless draw.

The Lions were however poor and wasteful with the penalty kicks as they missed 3 out of 4 spot kicks with Omolade the only taker who found the back of the net.
