Wonder Lions back to winning ways with victory in AITEO Cup opener.

The Selection

The familiar trio of Ojo Seun, Sunday Emmanuel and Ajeyomi Olalekan retained their place in the regular back three, Akpovie and Omolade started from both wing back position, Adedayo and Afolabi partnered in defensive midfield, Terdoo Melody slotting in attacking midfield behind Dahunsi Tobi and Chinedu Okorie upfront.

Kickoff

The boys started on a very positive note by attacking from the first minute and were unlucky to not have taken the lead from chances through Chinedu, omolade and Dahunsi in quick successions in the early stages. We were however unlucky to have gone behind in the 11th minute after Ajeyomi Lekan failed to control a back pass and allowed the opponent’s attacker to fire them into an early lead. The boys however were not discouraged by the early slip and kept pressing for an equalizer which eventually came in the 35th minute after chinedu Okorie scored with an overhead kick from a scramble in the box that occurred after a corner kick. We went into the break tied but took the lead immediately after the restart in the 47th minute when chinedu was sent through on goal and laid a fine pass to Dahunsi to fire home.

We extended our lead in the 59th minute after Terdoo melody sent a fantastic no-look through pass to Akpovie Micheal who dribbled the gk and passed to Dahunsi tobi who then fired the ball into an empty net for his brace.
The opponent reduced the deficit in the 81st minute after an attacker won the ball from sunday Emmanuel in our area.
The lions held on in the latter stages to snatch an important victory and secured a place in the quarterfinals.
