Wonder Lions run riot to fight back and secure a well deserved victory to end the month of June on a clean slate
The selection
Emmanuel Yakubu who kept a clean sheet in the last match retained his spot in goal, The trio of Ojo Seun, Ajeyomi Lekan and Emmanuel Sunday returned to the matchday squad after being rested in the last outing, Onome Adepoju comes in for suspended Akpovie Micheal from right wing back while Ibitayo OmoLade started from the left wingback position.
Adeyemi Adedayo was given the nod in defensive midfield with Dahunsi Tobi and creative midfielder Terdoo Melody partnering in attacking midfield, Amaechi Sunday earns his first start after a while upfront with Chinedu Okorie.
How it went down
The Coach Olayiwola Micheal tutored-side started the encounter by having majority of the possession and could have taken the lead in the 6th minute but Wingback OmoLade fired his effort over the bar. We were forced into an early substitution after Sunday Emmanuel started feeling unwell and was replaced with Akingbade Bonny in the 9th minute.
The visitor however took the lead against the run of play in the 24th minute with a free kick screamer from just after the passing line which caught Emmanuel Yakubu off guard and into the net with a wild applause from the spectators. The goal however turned out to add more to the Lions’ hunger for goals as they pressed even harder to restore parity and were able to do so 12 minutes after the visitors took the shock lead when Ibitayo Omolade fired into the roof of the net after a scramble in the box to end the first half with a goal apiece.
The Lions went on to take the lead deservedly in the 48th minute when striking partners Sunday Amaechi and Chinedu Okorie combined well to score a beautiful team goal, Chinedu Okorie held up play nicely and sent Amaechi Sunday through on goal with a fine pass, Amaechi ran through on goal and placed a fine effort into the right side of the net. Both strikers once again combined nicely to increase our lead just 3 minutes after our second goal to put the game beyond the visitor’s reach.
A little defensive error however allowed the visitors to reduce the deficit by a goal in the 85th minute to bring an end to the entertaining affair.
What’s next
The Lions will resume training later this week to further strengthen preparations for tasks ahead.
