Spirited second half performance saw the Lions fight back to claim a morale boosting win
The Selection
Otaki Tope who had a good turn out against Victory Lions FC was named in goal, wingbacks Ilesanmi Fisayo and Osasu Sunday started from the left and right side respectively, Imoleayo, Romeo and Bonny in central defence, Emmanuel Segun, Gbemisola Emmanuel and Adeyemi Adedayo took responsibility of the midfield affair while the duo of Ogundumila Opeyemi and Akinloye Vincent started upfront.
Disappointing start
The visitors showed the better zeal from kickoff and their effort paid off early in the 6th minute when the defence line were caught napping and allowed Tobi to gift the visitors the lead with an effort from inside our area.
Our first real chance didn’t come until the 25th minute but Opeyemi’s attempt was too easy for the goalkeeper to gather. We could have however gotten the equalizer in the 43rd minute when the opponent’s goalkeeper miscued a kick to the feet of Akinloye Vincent who made a short run goalwards and had just a defender in goal to beat but awkwardly fired his attempt wide of goal to end the first half with the lions trailing behind by a goal.
Second half
The coaches made a complete change to the starting lineup at the break and the changes would have paid off just 5 minutes after the restart when Dahunsi Tobi fired an effort goalwards but was brilliantly blocked.
The equalizer finally came in the 60th minute when the familiar combination of Okorie Chinedu and Dahunsi Tobi both combined once again with the latter the provider setting up Chinedu nicely who took a one time shot goalwards to get us back into the game.
The Lions continued to ask the opposing defence all sorts of questions and once again took the lead deservedly in the 66th minute with Hassan Musa the orchestrator, going on a beautiful solo run and dribbling his way through the right side before sending a cutback pass to the feet of Ibitayo Omolade who controlled with his first touch and fired a cracker past the stretched arms of the goalkeeper to complete the comeback and win it for the Lions.
What’s next
The boys will on Wednesday take on Elite FC who happens to be in the same group with the B team for the Bet9ja league but this time in a friendly match and will give us a glimpse of what to expect ahead.
