WONDERXCHANGE FC had a comfortable 2 nil victory over the NYSC FC boys at the Akure Township Stadium on Thursday evening. The match which kicked off some minutes past 4pm started with the NYSC boys on the front foot and would have gone ahead in the opening stage if not for the brilliancy of the lanky defender Samson who made 2 vital successive blocks from the opponent’s forward lines to deny them from taking an early lead. After surviving the early scare, the wonder lions finally got their rhythm as they gradually settled into the game and started creating chances of their own and were repelled by vital blocks and interceptions from the opposition defenders. Still unable to have a breakthrough, Coach Olayiwola made an early change by replacing Abednego with Andreva in the 35th minute while Bello Olayemi who put in a very good performance by pulling the strings in the midfield and received a lot of knocks was replaced by Emaka Okorie in the 40th minute due to an injury to his ankle. However the first half ended with both sides unable to find a breakthrough.
The second half resumed with the gaffer introducing fresh legs by replacing Victor with Olalekan before the game restarted while in the 58th minutes, Rojo was replaced with Melody, Chinedu replaced with Dona and Fisayo popularly known as Pele (who received a round of applause from the fans after putting in a good shift) was replaced with Lade. However the much needed breakthrough finally came in the 69th minute from two of the newly introduced substitutes when Lade provided a neat assist from the left wing for Melody who placed a well driven shot past the helpless Goalkeeper much to the relief of the coaches and fans. The second and final goal came when 2 of the substitutes combined again with Dona laying off a brilliant pass for Lade who fired a nice shot into the net with the goalkeeper rooted to a spot .
This gave the Lions the opportunity to retain possession with some good team moves and brilliant exchange of passes to frustrate the opponents the more and making them get into the referee’s book with cautions. Coach Olayiwola made the final substitutions by replacing Amaechi with Niyi,Samson with Sunday, Andreva with Baba and finally Apkovie with Oladele Tope towards the final stages of the game.
